Abstract
To evaluate relationships with clinicopathologic factors, expression of p53 protein and vascular endothelial growth factor (VECTF) studied in 125 gastric adenocarcinoma patients who underwent gastrectomy at Chung-_Ang University Hospital.

The patient consisted of 55 cases of the intestinal type and 70 cases of the diffuse type of gastric cancer by Lauren¢¥s classification, and 27 cases of early cancer and 98 cases of advanced cancer.

The results were noted as follows :

1. p53 protein was expressed in 69.1%(38/55) of intestinal type and 42.9%(30/70) of diffuse type, and in 37%(10/17) of early cancer and 59:2%(58/98) of advanced cancer(P<0.05). It was not significant difference according to lymph node metastasis.

2. VEGF was expressed in 60%(33/55) of intestinal type and 70%(49/710) of diffuse type, and in 44.4%(12/27) of early cancer and 71.4%(70/98) of advanced cancer, and in 75.3%(51/81) of lymph node positive group and 47.7%(21/44) of lymph node negative group WK0.05).

3. p53 protein was expressed in 52%(13/25) of good prognostic group and 69.9%(51/73) of poor prognostic group. VEGF was expressed in 56%(14/25) of good prognostic group and 76.7%(56/73) of poor prognostic group. VEGF was significantly higher than p53 in poor prognostic group.

4. p53 and VEGF expression was coincided in 68% of tumors, and a significant correlation was found between pa> and VEGF status.

In conclusion, both p53 and VEGF significantly correlated with prognosis in patients with gastric adenocarcirnomas.
